When Should Kittens Lose Their Baby Teeth

Most cat owners won t even notice a kitten has lost his tooth it is often lost in the home or swallowed.

Just like with human children the timeline for losing kitten teeth is pretty flexible. Cats begin losing their baby teeth at around 12 weeks or 3 months. However if there are a number of teeth missing once your kitten reaches nine or ten weeks you may want to contact your vet to check everything is okay.

A kitten will have all of their adult teeth between 6 to 9 months provided there are no complications. Kittens have a total of 26 deciduous teeth. Cats like humans have two sets of teeth in their lifetime. Kittens are born without visible teeth.

Although the timing varies between animals as much as it does among humans the average kitten will have lost all her baby teeth by between 6 and 9 months old. Not all cats teeth grow at the same rate. They have no molars.

The majority of kittens begin losing their teeth at 3 months old however there are some cases where losing teeth may begin a bit later in life. By four months of age all of their 26 primary teeth should be visible.
